What Not to Stamp - a card makeover challenge

Good morning and welcome to another challenge! Thanks to everyone who played along last week - we always appreciate your joining us! This is Lori Rider, your hostess for this week. I love watching makeovers on TV and we're going to adapt the makeover concept for this week's challenge. When I look back on those cards I made when I first started stamping, I cringe... what was I thinking? Well, we all had to start somewhere. That's where the challenge comes in! First go hunt through your photos and find one of those old cringe-worthy cards – but then choose one or two things about it that you *do* like and use those on a new card. Think of it as CASEing yourself. Maybe you keep the layout, the colors, a technique you used... anything is fair game. The only catch: you have to show us the old card so we can see how far you’ve come!

Here are the samples from our team to get you started. This post is heavy with pics, but they are absolutely worth it to see the transformations everyone created!

The original card - one of the first I posted on my blog in 2007.

For my makeover I used similar colors and types of images, along with a similar background technique.

My original card made a few years ago - I love the colour scheme used here and I'm still infatuated with butterflies so I used both these elements.

Makeover - My love of layers, colour and fussy cutting is still apparent in my new version.

Linda Coughlin - The Funkie Junkie

This card was originally made right after I started with the OCC in September 2009. You can see it here on the OCC blog and here on my personal blog.

For my makeover, I wanted to keep the same feminine romantic theme,

but wanted to lighten and brighten it.

Liliana Inguanti - Stampin' From Home

This card was from my pre-blogging days. I like the design, but find it dull and boring and too monochromatic. I actually cringed when I found this one in my stash, lol.

Here is my makeover card. I kept the overall design but you can see how I learned to combine colors to bring the card to life, and create contrast to make the design elements "pop."

My first card was made September 2011.

This was one of my first OCC cards. I'm not sure what I was thinking with any of it.

For my makeover version, I used the same layout (rotated it 90°) and colors of light blue and pink.

Party Winner

Hello, and thank you for stopping back by, to see who we selected as our winner for the 'Party' challenge last week.  We had some very beautiful entries and the decision was difficult.  But we were able to select one outstanding entry by Eva of Mimowolne Zauroczenia:

Eva really captured our eye with her soft color palate and simply elegant design.  We loved how she took the time to sew on the card, to help give the card a home-y feeling, and the baby neutral color remains fresh, soft, and delightful.  To help soften her card, she added a strip of lace and tulle.  The black and white floral pattern paper helps pull the card together and the paper blossoms are just beautiful additions.  Here is your Top Talent badge, and we hope you display it on your blog.  Congratulations!

So, now onto this week's challenge.  I have to admit, that I do love color challenges.  And so, I wanted to share a new pretty color challenge that I haven't seen before.  I created an inspiration board, to help get your creative juices flowing.  I also included a 'quote' if you are inspired by words.

Here is the color challenge board:

The colors for this week's challenge are:  Navy, Pink, and (you choose).  In that, you must use Navy and Pink, but you select the third color!  Be aware that neutrals like black, white, brown, and cream don't count as your third color.  I have provided different photos for inspiration, showing a different third color.  Now, break out your paper crafting supplies, and create a fabulous paper craft item to share with us!  This challenge is open for one week!  Take a moment, and have a look at what our talented OCC design team have created!

PARTY

Happy Saturday to our OCC friends.  It's Sharon, from Designs by Sharon, here with this week's challenge.  But first, we would like to extend a huge 'thank you' to all of last week's participants and visitors.  We just loved looking at all of your creative bakin' inspired crafts.

Now, on with this week's challenge.  At this time of year, we find ourselves sharing more of our time with family and friends, hosting and attending parties.   All kinds of parties!  From afternoon BBQ's to elegant wedding receptions.  And it is this celebrating that has shaped this week's challenge, entitled, "PARTY".  We challenge you to make a paper craft item for a party!  Any kind of party: birthday celebrations, an afternoon BBQ, a summer evening soiree, a beautiful wedding ceremony, or an elegant dinner.  Just make your paper craft item related to your party: an invitation, a party favor, some decorations, a hostess 'thank you' gift/card, etc.  All we ask is that you have fun, be creative, and share your creativity with us!  Who knows, you could be our next Top Talent!

'10' Challenge Winner

Happy 4th of July! (for our United States followers out there!)  Thanks for stopping back at our little 'corner' of the blogosphere to find out the winner of last week's '10' Challenge!  You were all so creative with your different ways of incorporating '10' in your creations.  It was REALLY hard to pick 1 winner but we finally did.  This weeks winner is
