DecoArt Sponsor Spotlight #2

and our Sponsor this month is

Today I want to share with you a project I made using some wonderful Decoart Products and show you how they helped me achieve some easy distress effects.

This is easy and quick to make...
Perhaps a gift idea - because Christmas is knocking on the door!

Here are the materials:

First I used Decoart Chalky finish paint Timeless for the centre of the old wooden plaque. On the edges I used Decoart Chalky finish paint Enchanted.
They are beautiful colours. I love the matte chalk feeling, perfect for an old distressed vintage look

After a short drying time, I used Decoart Crackle glaze as topcoat. This crackles as it dries to create an eggshell crackling pattern in just one simple step.

I used a laser copy image and I covered the image with the matte medium.
I then turned it face down onto the wooden plaque - it is like you are hiding the image by gluing it down. Burnish it to make sure it sticks.
Once the medium is dry you wet the image with water and rub away the paper by carefully rolling it with the tip of your fingers.  When all the paper is removed and the black print stays on the page, then you have done everything right

I created the age spots with Walnut Stain Distress ink mixed with a little bit
of water in a spray bottle or with pipette

To finish I used Decoart Soft touch varnish. It's fast drying and you will have a lovely soft surface.

Spotlight Creative Embellishments - Inspire

Welcome crafters everywhere to the second of the Sponsor Spotlights this month

Kerstin  here again with a new project - an ART JOURNAL :-)
Perfect theme, it makes me happy!,
It relaxes me and helps me to stress management

This month our Sponsor is

They have a huge assortment of gorgeous chipboards and it was not easy to
decide which ones to choose!

There are no rules for journaling, it is 'anything goes'.

This is actually the oft-quoted "The journey is the reward"

With journaling very different forms of expression can be used: painting, drawing, photography, collage, stamps, stencils, chipboards, writing, .... and much more.

Often it is a combination of different techniques in Mixed media style, that lead to pages.

For this project I chose the Leafy vine frame, the wonderful Flourish dragonflies and the Words Inspire

For the background I used some acrylic paints (brown, black, white)

The wet paint was marked with a tool to give the impression of natural bark

I also worked with stamps, stencils and Distress spray paint

The chip board was primed with Golden/green acrylic paint....

.....and gold embossing powder was used here

and covered with a white patina

Before becoming a journal page this was an old calendar page
This was perfect - It become a wonderful background

I hope you will be inspired to discover the fascinating world of using Chipboards from Creative Embellishments, and I hope you will also have gained some new options in Art Journaling

Spotlight Creative Embellishments - Fantasy

Welcome to the first of this month's Sponsor Spotlights!

Hello dear crafters, Kerstin  here and I am so pleased to bring you the first Sponsor Spotlight of April!

  This month our Sponsor is
Creative Embellishments are offering a $25 gift certificate to our randomly drawn winner

They have a huge assortment of gorgeous chipboards and it was not easy to decided
What should I choose???

I adore Creative Embellishments because they fit into creative work in so many ways. You can work with colors, structures and effects, but also stamping, or work with embossing powder or embossing folders.
The chipboards give the project the special touch with a great 3D effect.
They are wonderful craft items to work with!

Here is what I have chosen to make with these beautiful embellishments :-)
I decided to work with a lot of Steampunk chipboards

Inventive genius and adventurous romance are what makes Steampunk so very special and exciting to me. I hope you will be inspired by this paradox and magical world too!

I started with a gift box from which I cut out a window.
From an old gift box to a shadow box - Recycling is in !! -
The background was designed with stamps, multi-coloured stamp pads and distress color

At the beginning I primed the chipboards with white acrylic paint

The Chipboards are made of sturdy cardboard, which is ideally suited for embossing.
It creates interesting structures, which can be emphasized with metallic effects.
You can also stack the chipboards

The other embellishments were decorated with different acrylic colors, mainly silver, rust, patina green tone and black, to give the creation the appearance of something old, rusted and weathered.

Different tones and effects often appear better in the sunlight ;-)

I had so much fun and joy when experimenting and I advise everybody to try it yourself,
There are so many things you can do with embellishments. What will you do with them?

Come back on the 25th to see some more Creative Embellishments!

Hope to see you then!
